Springfield, Illinois Tornado
nexrad close-ups

Note: This describes the April 19, 1996 tornado. For information about the March 12, 2006 tornadoes, please look here.

6:30pm CDT (4/19/96) - The same supercell that caused the Jacksonville tornado, but roughly 15 minutes later. A well-defined hook echo shown here in the LSX reflectivities.

Two mesocyclones are visible in this image. The northern signature was embedded in a supercell which spawned a tornado that struck Bloomington, Illinois. The mesocyclone associated with the Springfield tornado was not as well defined at this time.
